Social Media

Social media platforms have given people opportunities to connect and share their lives with friends and family as well as other followers. However, they have gone beyond that and are now facilitating people’s web presence in terms of what they can do as far as job qualifications are concerned. Employers are now actively performing a social media background check in an effort to search for the right job candidate.

What does this mean?

What this means is that a recruiting manager is likely to check your online presence before calling you for that interview. Recent research studies  show that more than 70 percent of employers are now searching through candidates’ social media accounts as part of the hiring process. Many employers are also going beyond social media platforms when looking for potential employees online using search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo. In today’s increasing digital world, it is essential to have an online presence both for individuals and for businesses. Potential employers and business partners will definitely check you or your business online to see whether you could just be the one they are looking for or whether your business is the right partner to make a deal with.

AI and Social Media Recruiting

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is the ability of computers to mimic human intelligence. It has been used to develop robotics and smart applications that behave like humans. AI intelligence is thus being used to help in the recruiting process by implementing a human/computer team. With AI, computer systems can defeat human intelligence when it comes to repetitive searches, matching of patterns, and drawing correlations. AI solutions can offer strategic opportunities for a business that uses social media screening to check job candidates. A human being may not be able to obtain all the data and information regarding a candidate on scrutiny, but an AI solution can achieve that. It is fast and can facilitate a business to do an all-round assessment for potential candidates. Knowing how essential the right skills and expertise are for business efficiency and productivity, combining AI and human intelligence could be the next thing to adopt in social media screening.

What do you think?

I would love to know your thoughts on this. It’s such an interesting (and perhaps slightly controversial topic), I know whenever I employ someone I ALWAYS check their Social Media. It’s just what employers do now. As a Freelancer I’m very careful about what I share on Social media too because I’m aware that potential employers will check me out. Are you an employer? Do you check candidates Social Media?

Leave me a comment below and let me know your thoughts!
